The canal from the Marne to the Rhine (West branch), the loop Toul/Neuves-Maisons/Nancy (Moselle, the canal from the Marne to the Rhine, Nancy branch), the canal from the Marne to the Rhine (East branch), the Sarre canal (as far as Sarreguemines), the canal from the Rhône to the Rhine (North branch as far as Rhinau).

 This is a vast region that we cross, by boat, from West to East, from the Champagne region to the Rhine and from north to south, from Luxembourg to Burgundy.
The core is the loop around Nancy; a loop that has unfortunately been theoretical since the closure of the Nancy branch in May 2008. But the reopening of this little junction canal between the Moselle and the canal from the Marne to the Rhine is announced for the summer of 2012.
 Crossing the reliefs required engineering exploits that left civil engineering structures of stunning ingenuity. The boat lift at Arzviller quickly descends from a col in the Vosges to the plain of Alsace (44 m difference in height).
