From Marquette to la frontière Belge

The junction between the Deûle and the Escaut via the little Espierre canal on the Belgian side, and Roubaix on the French side, was re-established in its entirety on 1st June 2011. Pleasantly lined with trees and flowers, the Roubaix canal is a rather joyous collection of mobile bridges (lifting, raising on one side, turning, sliding, tilting,…). Recreational sailors should never forget that it is largely due to the determination of the fishermen of Roubaix, and their famous association, that we owe the reopening of the canal to navigation.
